PUPPETRY

Avijit trained in puppetry under the watchful eyes of the legendary puppeteer and UNIMA president Mehere Contractor. She took Avijit under wings when he was a year student. From then on he trained, travelled and performed with her till 1989.

Avijit has performed at prestigious international festivals at Charleville-Mézière and at Tehran. He has used various types of puppets like the rod puppet, glove puppet and arm puppet. However he has special skills with very large, coloured shadow puppets (this style originated in Andhra Pradesh, India).
